Blog Entry – April 6
Maybe it’s because I moved here from Minnesota, but I’ve always loved Garrison Keillor. His tales about Lake Wobegon could always amuse and delight an audience.
This week I could say, along with Mr. Keillor, “It’s been a busy week in Lake Wobegon.” And it has been! There’s a lot happening at 36 South Street…
We started the week by giving thanks for the ministry of Doug and Anne Marie, sharing cake, pie and stories.
Spring has now appeared in the form of crocus in front of the church.
Construction equipment has moved back into place (they are now replacing the windows on the bank side of the Parish Hall and replacing the flashing around the coping stones on the same side).
The staff are hard at work putting some of the initial pieces of RedeemerFest 2014 in place for the lucky co-chairs (Dave is making an awesome bulletin board in the Parish Hall– be sure to check it out).
Also this week I learned from Judith that she is leaving her administrative position at Redeemer (today was her last day). She has had an amazing gift for hospitality– welcoming everyone who comes through our doors. We will miss her.
Whether it was the Holy Spirit or serendipity I can’t say, but after Judith told me that she was leaving I was having lunch with a colleague who happened to mention that she had a parishioner who might be available on a short-term basis. On Monday Melissa Sharron will begin as our interim administrator. Please extend a warm Redeemer welcome to her. Our office ours will remain the same: Monday – Thursday, 9am – 1:30 pm.
We continue our lively Lenten conversation on topics such as the theology of sin and grace, and end each passionate dialog with a very peaceful, contemporary form of compline in the church. Catch the last one this coming Wednesday.
Lynn’s program on the history of Jewish-Christian relations continues for two more weeks at the Adult Forum. Hearing Lynn’s passion for interfaith connection and the amazing amount of research that she has done over the years makes it easy to see why this has been well received in churches where she has previously offered it.
In addition to all of that, there is Holy Week and Easter in the not-too-distant future. Preparation for this alone would keep us busy!
No, there is NEVER a dull moment (she said, as the construction guys jack-hammered around her window) here. And yes, here at Redeemer, all the women are strong, the men are good looking, and the children are above average!
Yours in faith,
Cynthia
