In the News: Redeemer to Celebrate Five Years as ‘Peace Site’

The Church of the Redeemer on South Street, will celebrate its fifth anniversary as a “Peace Site,” at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25.

The press release is below:

The Church of the Redeemer in Morristown celebrates its fifth anniversary as a Peace Site on Sunday, Sept. 25, with a special liturgy at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Cynthia L. Black, D.D., will preach, and the procession, music, readings and prayers will be specially crafted for the occasion. The service will end with a blessing in front of the church at the peace pole. Several doves, symbolizing peace, will be released
into the air at that time.

The Church of the Redeemer was busy this summer, welcoming its 16th rector, among other activities and events. September will be no different, with the formal welcome for the Rev. Cynthia L. Black and more. A press release is below:

While many churches may experience something of a slowdown during summer months, the , Morristown, has been active with the business of welcoming a new rector and extensive building projects.

In the News: Church of the Redeemer welcomes Cynthia Black as its new rector

The Rev. Cynthia Black is coming home.

The Episcopal priest began her ordained ministry in Essex Fells in the Diocese of Newark in 1985 before becoming dean of the Cathedral of Christ the King in Kalamazoo, Mich., and, most recently, interim rector of Church of the Epiphany in Plymouth, Minn.

On June 26, she will lead her first services as the 16th rector of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Morristown. She succeeds the Rev. Phillip Dana Wilson, rector from 1987 to 2009.

In the News: Episcopalians, Moravians inaugurate full communion

With an evening Eucharist Feb. 10 that blended elements of the liturgical and musical practices of both traditions, representatives of the Episcopal Church and the two provinces of the Moravian Church in North America formally inaugurated a full-communion relationship between the denominations.

The service at Central Moravian Church in downtown Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, the seat of the Moravian Church’s Northern Province, included a newly written Liturgy for Christian Unity from the Moravian Book of Worship and an Eucharistic prayer adapted from the 4th century liturgy attributed to St. Basil the Great (The Book of Common Prayer’s Eucharistic Prayer D). Most of the hymns came from the Moravian Book of Worship and while some hymns are also found in the Episcopal Church’s 1982 hymnal, many were unique to the Moravian tradition.
