It will be our honor to have Bishop Beckwith with us this weekend as we kick off RedeemerFest. We invited him to be present as we “take Redeemer to the streets” and he said yes! He will be with us for the Super Speedy Summer Sunday Service and Supper on Sunday, June 8th. Please join us to welcome the bishop and show him some of our radical hospitality!
Please plan to be with us (and bring your friends, too) to these events this weekend, also:
Friday, June 6, 7-9 “Legacy Circle”
Founded by award-winning songwriter an activist, Manuela Arciniegas, Legacy Circle is an all-women’s drum, song and dance troupe that plays the fire-igniting sounds of Afro-Dominican and Afro-Puerto Rican bomba and palos music–with an urban twist. These women are the next generation of NYC’s most gifted drummers, singers and dancers of Afro-Caribbean music. They also happen to include Victoria Felix’s sister, Miriam!
Saturday, June 7, Children’s Activities 11-2pm
Cindy Donough (our fabulous elementary school teacher!) and her team will be offering chalk drawing, creating a sculpture garden, offering storytelling and more. In addition, the Morristown Fire Department will have a fire truck out front for kids to tour from 1-2! Bring your kids, the kid in you, your neighbor’s kids, grandkids, and any other kids you can think of!
June 7, 7 – 9pm Music by Christine Deleon, Dave Kleiner, Big Jeff and Friends
Christine and Co. are always a hit at Morristown’s First Night celebration on New Year’s Eve. Now you can hear them without having to brave the cold! Bring a lawn chair or blanket– it and all the activities/concerts are FREE.
Sunday, June 8, is PENTECOST. Be sure to wear red to help get in the festive mood AND, if you’d like, come prepared to pray in the language of your ancestors at the Lord’s Prayer! Visit this website for the language of your choice, print it out, and bring it with you.
In addition to our services (8:00, 10:30 and 5:30) being outside, these are some other things you’ll want to visit the RedeemerFest tent for…Strawberries! As part of our annual Pentecost celebration we will once again enjoy strawberries after the 10:30 service.
At 1:00 there will be a demonstration by the Seeing Eye. Ever wonder how the dogs are trained and paired with people who need them? Come find out!
Finally, following the “supper” part of the S6 (Super-Speedy Summer Sunday Service and Supper) there will be a screening of Sourlands: Stories From the Fight for Sustainability at 7:00p.m.
And there’s more….
The events continue all week. And next weekend! Tell your friends!!
